PRIVACY POLICY
Chinese Professionals Club of Australia (hereafter, the Association) collects information from its members and other sources in order to represent its member’s interests, improve its services and advance member relationship. In collecting, storing and using this information the Association is bound by the provisions of the Privacy Act 1998. This act sets out a series of privacy principles that must be observed in the management of personal information. Our policies in relation to these principles are set out below.
The Association commitments to privacy and compliance with the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 and is bound by the National Privacy Principles. The Association reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If it is changed, the changes will be posted on the Association’s website so that you are always aware of the sort of information collected, how the information may be used, and under what circumstances it may be disclosed by the association. YOUR PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT TO US!
WHAT KIND OF PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
The type of information the Association collects and holds includes (but is not limited to) personal information about:
- Members' official and preferred names, titles, gender, year of birth;
- Members' education qualifications, occupation, employer information;
- Members’ contact details including telephone, e-mail address (either private or business), and home post-code;
- Members' work experience and skills, areas of practice, areas of interest;
- Members’ brief family information, such as marriage status, number of children and their ages, special Interest or hobby.
If you do not provide the Information required, you may not be able to become a member or you may not be able to receive the information or service you requested by the method you have requested.
HOW WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We collect most personal information direct from you - for example, when you fill in an application form including an admission, readmission, concession or direct debit form, or a survey form. Information may also be collected direct from you when you deal with us personally, over the telephone, send a letter, or visit the web site.
HOW IS YOUR INFORMATION USED BY US?
The Association collects the Information to provide you with a specific service. For example, we may use the Information you provide us to:
- Process your membership application, process your membership renewal, update your details and profile information or fulfil an order or request for information;
- Provide membership services such as Rainbow Magazine, e-News, and other member benefits, such as important announcement, seminar, training and events;
- Make decisions relating to nomination or election to a position on committee;
- Send you voting papers or other information required under the Association’s Constitution or By-laws;
- Communicate with you on any issues relevant to your membership or transactions with the Association;
- Process payments of membership fees;
- Internal accounting and administration;
- Regulatory reporting and compliance;
- Helping us to identify and inform you about other services that may be of benefit to you.
The Association will not sell, rent, trade or otherwise supply to third parties any personal information obtained from you without your consent.
The Association develops aggregate (i.e. not individual) reports, which incorporate some of the Information. The reports are for use by the Association its self or by its partner associations, such as CPCA Melbourne, to review statistics or analyse trends. However, these reports do not include any personally identifiable information.
The Association treats all personal information held about you as confidential. This applies except where disclosure of your personal information is compelled by law or with your consent.
Disclosure of personal information is restricted to those authorised by the Association Committee.
ACCURACY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
If we have accurate personal information about you, it enables us to provide you with the best possible service. We take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up to date whenever we collect or use it.
If you find that current personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date please contact us immediately. Alternatively, you may correct this yourself through the secure Members Zone on our website.
SECURITY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
The Association protects any personal information that we hold about you from misuse and loss. We protect your privacy by restricting access to your personal information to those authorised office bearers who need it, either to process information or to provide you with the services you have asked for. The Association Committee members are responsible for handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act.
Your personal information may be stored in hardcopy documents, as electronic data, or in our software or systems. We maintain physical security over our paper and electronic data stores and premises. We also maintain computer and network security. For example, we use user identifiers and passwords to control access to computer systems.
RESOLVING YOUR CONCERNS
If you believe that the privacy of your personal information has been compromised, you are entitled to complain. If you have a complaint, contact our Membership Director or Web Master. If your complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction, email a your complaint to:

A complaint must identify the conduct that is the basis for the complaint. There are no fees for lodging a complaint.
